I missed the first couple of seasons and tried to watch it a bit in the 3rd season but just couldn't engage with it. I bought all five seasons and just finished the 2nd. It's an amazing show. Personally, I don't mind buying ala carte for this content. That's why I happily cancelled satellite TV and simply have an HD antennae for broadcast shows.

Re: Indigo Girls at Lewis Ginter

Thanks Erin, we'll do our best to catch a live Amy Ray show as well, now that we know about it. :-)

We've eaten dinner once at Emily's restaurant, Watershed. It was absolutely fantastic, in every respect (food, atmosphere, service, and the company that introduced us to the place).

Thanks for taking the time to comment!

Re: Indigo Girls at Lewis Ginter

"Each of them could easily be a solo superstar, both in terms of their songwriting and their vocal and instrumental ability.."

I'm sure you know that Amy Ray does quite a bit of solo work while not being an 'Indigo Girl.' Obviously, the fan base is much smaller than the IG fan base, because A-Ray is much more rock/punk/alternative when she's doing her solo gigs. She tours with a full band, which includes Julie Wolf, and puts on an amazing show. She'll be doing 2 shows in NYC in August, and if you haven't seen her solo stuff, you definitely should.

As far as I know, Emily doesn't tour solo, although she's recorded songs with a couple other artists. I believe she runs a restaurant in Atlanta and has co-written a book...but I'm much more an 'Amy girl...'

Great post though!

Re: VirtualBox Multiboot USB

In the current manual, version 2.2.4, it's now in section 9.10. There is a command line administration tool called VBoxManage.exe that can be used to create a tiny virtual disk (a VMDK file) that essentially points to any real disk or partition. I used that to create this virtual pointer to my USB drive. It worked perfectly.

I then attached that tiny VMDK disk to my virtual machine and fired it up. Voila, I got the same 28 choices to boot from. I couldn’t get the 64 bit versions to work (they boot, but they claim to be missing modules and won’t start X-Windows), but everything else works flawlessly under VirtualBox

http://www.opticality.com/blog/2009/01/12/virtu...

Could you help me???

Re: Indigo Girls at Lewis Ginter

I didn't realize your folks live so close. I'm jealous you guys got to go- I really like the Indigo Girls, and Lewis Ginter is right next to my parents house! They said they could hear the concert from their porch that night. I would certainly have been there if it had been a month or so earlier instead the day before my due date. I glad you guys had a good time!

Re: Eddie From Ohio at Innsbrook After Hours

Great commentary on a fun evening. No way we'll miss this, so don't worry about us showing up a day late. ;-)

That said, a few more notes about my mistake. We were at dinner with Wes last night and I turned to Lois out of the clear blue and said "Oh oh, I put up the wrong date for the wedding!". So, I would have corrected it this morning either way.

Next, Girlyman is playing 10/11/09 at the Birchmere in VA, and I noted that in the blog as well, and I won't admit publicly to being able to be in two places at once, no matter how many times you try to waterboard it out of me! ;-)

As Lois has likely mentioned to you many times, 10/10 is a very special date for her (and me) in terms of how many couples we know that got married on 10/10 and had wonderful marriages (that produced people like Lois, for example). ;-)

Finally, I think my brain liked coupling 9/10/11 (albeit jumbled as 10/11/09) with 08/08/08. Oh well, all is back to normal now. :-)

Re: Girlyman at Highline Ballroom

You guys are the best for organizing! I won't be able to make it to Boston that weekend, but now you know.

Thanks for the pointers to the Seldom Scene CDs. I don't listen to that much bluegrass these days but I did listen to a lot in the late 70s and early 80s. Since you mentioned the Seldom Scene, their album, "Live at the Cellar Door", is a terrific album that everyone interested in bluegrass should own (along with the first "Old and in the Way" album)

Re: Happy Birthday Lois

I just read your post today.
